Food

I filled myself to the brim last Saturday. Well nearly.

Met up with Food4Thot for some Ah Sang Ba Kut Teh around Kelana Jaya area. Let’s wait for her review on this place. Will linked it up if she does. I find it to be nice… with heavy herbs taste and Food4Thot liked the pig’s tummy most and her well trained buds tells her that those delicious slices of meat has gone through some pepper bath before ending up in a nicely simmered pot of claypot ba kut teh. I had two bowls of rice for my breakfast and a full tummy on a grey bleak morning does wonders. As we were enjoying this, a freak accident happened to an eight legged creature. Bless its soul.

Then hung around NZX for a while, checking the newly opened outlets… most of it being eateries. The Holly Coffee place seems decent. I could go there for my morning cuppa tea and hooked on to some Wifi and read a book. 2 hours should suffice and put me in a good mood for the day. It’s already in my coming to-do-list. SC insisted that I give Big Apple’s Durian infused donut a try. Since she is buying… naturally I did. I never reject free food. If I was a mouse, my life span would be so short. Managed to borrow 2 new books from her, Along Came A Spider by James Patterson and Socrates In Love by Kyoichi Katayama, my first Japanese translated book. Prepare for some different style of story telling, I was told. Oh and I finally finished The Little Prince. Go get it and read. It’s quite a read though it’s short. I mean the story not the prince with golden wheat hair. I left the place after gobbling the spiky doughnut. My burp smells of durian.

And the event of the day was the baking session once again after such a long interval. I was late so I was not eligible for any poser photos during the process. Hence I skipped all the photos of all of them and decided to post only what comes out of the oven. Ha… ha… ha…

First one to pop fresh out of the oven.

The Bread Butter Pudding. The crust is goooooooood. I only have a few bites. Was bullied into submission… had to eat a lot of the squishy part. Never let them serve me again. Hahaha…

The layered Shepherd Pie. Topped with cheese on top of an inch of mashed potato+onion+cheese on mixed vegetable and minced beef. Pardon the photo. It got attacked before they got a nice shot of it.

Made me skipped dinner. But had supper instead with my brother and friends. Slept early because the next day is a Sunday. And instead of joining the protest in red tshirts I went for the rocks. I had to officiate my new Evolve Defy. My third pair of climbing shoes.

Driven to climb more by the new acquisition, I did 6 routes at Nanyang Wall, Batu Caves. I led a 6A+ and did the Indecision 6B again but failed to redpoint it. It was good though. I only stopped to rest at the second last bolt. At the crux. Jammed my fingers till I tore my skin. No bloody scene, no worries. The other 4 routes was all top rope. A 6A, Lost Monkey 6C+, Old Shoes Beware 6C+ and Go To Hell 7A. Lost Monkey is considerably easy with loads of juggy handholds, the crux is the 3rd - 2nd last bolt area… a roof. With proper footwork and enough power and endurance it will be easy peasy. I think I will fall on that when I lead it. No doubt about it. Deep breath. It should be hell of a rush. The only climb that has been haunting me for the last 2 days is the Old Shoe Beware. I got my new shoes strapped on so I had won a quarter of the battle right? Fat hope. Anyway I kind of figured the move at the crux part. Left crimp, right hand over head crimp with a high step and a hard hard push on the right. Jam the fingers in the hole and go up… while stabilizing myself. Clip and exhale. That scene has been playing several times a day now and I am aching to get it over with. But alas, I would have to wait for 10 more days or so for I won’t be going outdoors this week. It’s resting time.

Yup, been working late and hard and so far no paranormal sightings from me. Not that I am welcoming any. *Touch Wood*

Sorry for not updating lately.
*Bow*
I have been tied up with loads of work. Precisely… freelance work. A sudden influx of work demand just came rushing head on, and I did what I know what I should do. I took it head on of course. So I am kind of juggling several projects at once in a time frame of 2-3 weeks. I have already got the money to buy the Samsung phone. I figured I won’t be able to win it anyway… and the hectic schedule has robbed me of my blogging pleasures. No choice.

Have been using the phone a lot and somehow or rather and I can’t escape the idea of it being some kind of lucky charm or amulet, given the things that are going on lately. Am enjoying it really. Work is tiring as usual but it has took a turn to being fun too. The regular meetings with new clients and all. My housemates are seeing me less and less lately, even on weekends. Though I am sure I am not missed yet. Haha…

Oh and I am picking up reading. Nope… not again. I never had the real habit of reading. But what can I say… I am only on my second book in a period of 2 weeks. Nope… I don’t do it on my normal time. If I have some normal time to spare, I would be blogging. Yup. Honestly. Instead I am reading once I step foot in the LRT compound. Surprisingly, the commuting time seems to fleet by me as I am engrossed and swimming freely in the sea of words. Just freestyle, I can’t do breaststroke, water treading let alone butterfly stroke. The first book was The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom. A 194 Page - #1 New York Times Bestseller. A not so thick and intimidating book that stir up my interest in carry on reading while I take the train home. Together with my i450+Bang & Olufsen sound technology loaded with my current favourite songs, I look forward to my daily commute. Now I am on to my second book, by Mr. John Grisham. The Partner… I am at a chapter where Mr. Patrick S. Lanigan had got himself hauled back to Biloxi and the court drama will ensue. Gripping. Entertaining. Am taking it all in. Delicious. My hunger for good reading material is growing. Food4Thot can I borrow some books to read?

Gotta stop here. Work is beckoning at the top of their lungs.

Here are the bake a cheesecake session. I had a great time there and I just did the easy work. Some manual labor here and there. Best cheesecake I ever had… be it hot or cold. Cold is much better. But I ate 3 pieces when it came out of the oven because I know I would never get to taste hot cheesecake outside.

Ops… I got some photos jumbled. Not in sequence ya. I forgot the term for what I was doing. If not mistaken, Qiqi is folding. Mmm… some help here sis?

It’s obvious we are feigning help.

I like this pic too.

The process had me all wide eyed. Hard. My hand motion is slightly retarded. Again, it’s jumbled. Qiqi doing the honors.

Beautiful. Looking at it, I seem to be able to catch a sweet whiff of seduction.

No wastage. Scrape of what’s left on the butter paper.
Last but not least… exaggeration. Haha…

evil@lai took the pictures, so she was missing. We are looking forward to some shepard pie and hang around till we finish dinner. Early June?

That’s a really good combination if you ask me. And that’s what I was up to most of the weekend. In short, it was a lip smacking weekend. But this post will not have any photos yet because my camera is in Taiwan now and will be back on Tuesday. So I am waiting for my friends to send them over to me. Did I mention that evil@lai was kind enough to let me meddle with her Nikon DSLR. Yeah, it was my first time handling a DSLR for more than 5 minutes. I like the sound of it capturing the moment. *click*

Saturday and Sunday really had me all over the place. The time I spent at home was just to sleep. I was out most of the time and if I was home it was just 30 minutes plus, where I bath before I rushed out again. Everything was scheduled back to back. I was spiritually involved in the KL Freeze which happened yesterday at 8pm if you count sleeping as freezing. Had an early dinner at 6pm and got home before 8. Lay down and just dozed off. I was that tired. I had nearly 12 hours of sleep and guess what I am getting a day off work today too.

I am planning to go check out the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay : Malaysia which is sponsored by Samsung. Am stringing a friend along for the event. Hope to get some shots down together with my i450 phone. Hope to see some of the BlogMobbers there. But first I am going to bath and then head over the the Income Tax Office to get my password. I forgot mine. And am left with 2 chances of unlocking it. Don’t want to get suspended. Another busy Monday ya.

Happy working!

From Mr. Ginger to the George the Dead Clown… they are some art/food works from Eugene and Louise Bakery comprising of three Belgian individuals who are out to conquer the world with (in their own words), chocolate dreams, sugar-bomb tastings and the nostalgic love for some real home cooking. It was this that brought the three of them together in the first place anyway.

They have pretty cakes and cravings inducing chocolates. So not safe to view if you are on a strict diet. But the ones that caught my eyes are their marzipan treats. That’s where Mr. Ginger and friends comes in.

Marzipan : a confection of crushed almonds or almond paste, sugar, and egg whites that is often shaped into various forms

Shown together are some white chocolate butter cookie clouds. Has it got your heart rate up yet?
How could one possibly munch on them? It’s too kewl to be swallowed.

Headed over to Paddington House of Pancakes for dinner before going for the free screening of Across the Universe yesterday night. The meal at Paddington was scrumptious. Used the Mystyle voucher and it came free with a complimentary pancake. The people there will give you a list and you choose either a savoury or sweet. Asked the waitress to recommend and she asked us to go for the Pot of Gold. It’s mini pancakes topped with an ice-cream, laced with melted chocolate syrup and sprinkled with crunchy nut bits. Maple syrup are optional. It came first and we chomped delightfully on it. Our dessert cum appetizer haha… it was a taste of what will come next.

The next dish, the Double Gourmet Sausage came right after we finished our Pot of Gold… with a lapse moment just enough for us to get some liquid down. Two huge chicken cheese sausage, two beef salami, hashbrown, three cherry tomatoes, fresh lettuce layered on top of two lightly cheese-spreaded pancakes. Again, the pancakes were just the size of McMuffin. I initially thought it won’t be enough to satisfy both of our tummy but I was proven wrong. The sausage… mmm… was delicious with cheese oozing at knife point. The salami paired well with the pancake as it was a tad salty. The green vege and mini tomatoes gave the whole dish a beautiful colour and added a cool bite to the otherwise hot meaty dish. We practically cleaned the plate. We paid RM33.83 inclusive of a Iced Lemon Tea, warm water and tax. Oh the complimentary Pot of Gold was worth RM10.50. Hurried over to the cinema to catch Across the Universe.

Warning No Spoiler ahead.

Personally the movie is great. I loved it. I shall not elaborate on it but I am certain that many would think otherwise. For a free screening the crowd was not encouraging, many empty seats and quite a number left during mid movie according to my gf who was paying attention to the people behind rather than the movie. Yes, she is one of them who think the movie is crap. Luckily I met a fellow climber who shared the same boat as me. Both of us agreed it was cun melecun and would be getting the DVD version of it when it comes out. It kind of renewed my love for the composition of John Lennon and Paul McCartney and the different versions of the songs sung gives a different sound. Loads of things to look out for if you enjoy the movie. Shall stop here for now so as not to spoil the fun for those of you who plan to watch it.
Yes, my skeptical ass has been kicked hard.

Any of you are huge japanese buffet fans? Jogoya is having their second anniversary promotion and it seems the ladies are being offered a 50% discount for dining in on Monday to Wednesday. That’s around RM50 right? Meanwhile the guys gets a complimentary prawn cuisine. People like Sponkers who have issues with prawns will definitely frown at it. Girls, if it’s priced around the same like Shogun in 1Utama, I would definitely urged you to go to Jogoya, Starhill. The last time I went their food was so much fresher compared to the Shogun in 1U (eee…). And they changed their ice cream from Moven Pick to Häagen-Dazs. Yup you can bury your sweet face in free flow ice cream too. Check out the e-flyer for more.

KFC is having a new promotion on their Half-Half Meltz but QiqiChan knows what I am really going for. It’s the Mini Bucket USB Speaker freebie. Cheapo me. Am having it for dinner later when I go climbing at the gym. I don’t like the word gym associated to the climbing center. Personal preference.

Somehow the colonel looks a bit Asian to me. Is it the eyes? And the lines on his jaw makes him looks like one of those dolls from the movie Dead Silence.

Oh and check out Superhero S+W’s blog in their quest for the best KFC.

Any of you started using MyStyle yet? This is my second time using it and we ate at Sushi King in Sunway Pyramid last Saturday. And you can bet that I ate a lot of sushi.
Three easy steps. 1) Send an sms. 2) Show it to the outlet manager. 3) Enjoy.

You will be charge RM3.50 for the sms.

Can you see the FREE word?

We paid half the amount of what we really ate. If you ask me to pay RM56 for sushi…*shakes head and frown* but if RM28 for this stack of sushi… mmm… ok la. I pay. You should try using MyStyle. Am checking which restaurant should I eat at this coming Raya weekend.

Go walk walk eat eat with Kyife

This post is solely dedicated for those individuals who are born with unsatisfiable sweet tooth cravings for sinful desserts or those whose dreams are of happy times skiing down Caramelized Pear & Toasted Pecan and even boyfriends/husbands who would enjoy watching their beloved slurp/lick away at any expensive subzero dairy product without fearing the frozen dessert burning a hole in your pocket.

Give me a five now! Your wish has been granted.

This promotion is only valid till the 31st of October 2007 and available only at Bangsar Village II. No tapau allowed. But I suppose you could wash your face with the rich creamy dairy product.

Click here for a larger image. Check the terms and conditions.

For evil boyfriends/husband… you could wish that your other half would eat till their sweet tooth/teeth comes off or feed them till they puke and forever have a phobia for ice creams. :P Enough said… have a romantic time with your loved ones. Or girls, bring along your girlfriends and gossip and giggle over free flow ice creams. Indulge as they say…

The list of ice creams alone is enough to make me dizzy. Argh. Admittedly, its quite informative.

What in the hell…!
I am not sure that I am proud of their scientific achievement but apparently it seems China has somehow managed to produce fake eggs. Its only one-tenth the cost of a normal egg but it makes me feel nauseous just thinking of it. The main ingredients are food additives, resin, starch, solidifier, and pigments and tests shows that over consumption will damage the stomach and cause symptoms such as loss of memory and mental retardation, etc. It’s like dying a slow death comparable to smoking.I don’t think it’s worth it for cheaper raw material.

This phenomena is not new to them as courses in making artificial eggs are widely advertised online and the classes could take one or two days. Some training centers even boasts that “You can hardly tell the difference in appearance and taste between our product and real eggs.” Gosh… It won’t be long before someone makes a huge ass fake egg posing as Humpty Dumpty at a low cost. No worries about him having big falls anymore then. Hahaha…

And I am starting to suspect my recent spate of forgetfulness. I might be consuming dirt cheap chemical made eggs all these while for all I know. Oh no…

I did a Google search on “making artificial eggs” and sure enough there are some explanations on how-to. You could learn and start to poison people with your dishes. Evil… and they won’t know.

Read : China’s Artificial Foods Spotlighted in Korea

Learn : Method for making artificial egg yolks in the form of a cylinder

My search on ways of telling difference between real eggs and artificial ones did not show any dependable results. It may be because it’s not a widespread thing yet or they are becoming so retarded. Anyone has any idea?

Be forewarned as this is not the only artificial food available…
A research center based in Fengtai, Beijing, claims that “Our company has been spreading the technology in making artificial eggs. We trained over 70 thousand students in over 20 provinces in the country. We also provide technologies to make “artificial grapes,” “artificial beef and chicken,” and “making hawthorn flavored candied fruit without using hawthorn fruits.” Duh…..

Update :
False alarm on this issue. It seems that it was a hoax just like the China cardboard bun issue.
